Three days. Three tools forged by your own hands. Fire steel, bushcraft knife, camping axe — everything you need to live by fire and blade in the Welsh wilderness.
Three days at the forge. Three tools that will last a lifetime.
Every single one made by your own hands.
The Bushcraft Package was born from a simple idea — that the most essential tools of outdoor life should be made, not bought. A fire steel you forged yourself lights a fire differently. A knife you shaped and heat-treated carries a different weight. An axe you hafted yourself earns its place in your pack. Spend three days at Phoenix Forge in the Carmarthenshire countryside and leave with all three — and the skills to maintain and use them for the rest of your life.
Start at the beginning. Fire is everything in bushcraft — and a fire steel you forged yourself will outlast everything else in your kit by decades. Day one introduces you to the forge, hammer control and basic metalworking. You will forge a high-carbon steel striker, shape and dress the striking edge, and understand the metallurgy of spark-making.
A bushcraft knife is arguably the most important tool a person can carry in the wild. Day two you will forge a full-tang knife in the Scandinavian tradition — the classic convex grind and robust geometry designed for everything from food preparation to shelter building. The blade is heat-treated and the handle hand-fitted to your grip.
The third day brings it all together. Using the smith-and-striker technique and the skills developed over the previous two days, you will forge a hand axe designed specifically for camp use — splitting kindling, processing wood, notching stakes and the hundred other tasks an axe handles in the field. Hafted by hand and ready to use.
A high-carbon steel striker capable of throwing showers of sparks onto char cloth, birch bark or dry fungi. Properly treated, yours will outlast you.
A full-tang Scandi-ground knife in high-carbon steel with a natural handle fitted to your own hand. One of the most capable and enduring blade patterns ever made.
A hand-forged camp hatchet hafted in ash — heat-treated for toughness and edge retention. Ready to use the moment you walk out of the forge.
Phoenix Forge sits at the edge of the Carmarthenshire countryside — with Brecfa Forest, one of Wales's finest ancient woodlands, just twenty minutes away. Miles of oak and birch trail. Red kites. Clear rivers. Complete silence.
After three days at the forge, your tools are ready. Take them into the forest and use them. Light your first fire with the striker you made with your own hands. Find out what the knife you forged can really do among the oaks and rivers of West Wales.
Explore Wild Wales →Three days at Phoenix Forge is not just about the tools you make. It is about understanding the craft behind them — knowledge you can apply for the rest of your life.
The £499 package price covers three full days at the forge with everything you need. You arrive, you work, you leave with three hand-forged tools.
Keep it simple. The forge does not require special clothing — just the right kind.
IMPORTANT — Natural Fibres Only.
Synthetic fabrics (polyester, nylon, acrylic) are a serious fire hazard near a working forge. Cotton, wool and linen are the only acceptable materials. Jeans and a cotton t-shirt are perfect.
